Why is important the existence of a hero in our lives?
74I am sure that deep down inside each one of you, you`ve wondered about an honest answer to that question. The thing is that every person has his/her own personal reply, even if the answer is negative. Seriously speaking folks, be it a fantasy hero born of your own imagination or someone else`s, or be it a true flesh and blood hero, everybody has one.
Nowadays, that applies to every culture. From Crocodile Dundee in the land down under to Harry Potter in Great Britain, Dragon Ball`s Goku in Japan or Indiana Jones in the US, heroes have a way into your heart.
Those who do not share a taste for fiction, fantasy or both, have a hero in their own father, mother, grandfather or even a brother or a sister. It could be a stranger endowed with selfless human qualities or an anti-hero everyone despises but a few others do not. It could even be you (for those more self-centered).
Whatever the case, it has to be admitted: Everyone needs a hero. Now, have you ever wondered why is that ? Surprisingly enough, people need heroes because a hero equals hope, a role model to follow, a certainty that things will fall into their rightful place.
Let`s take for instance, William Wallace (portrayed by Mel Gibson in Braveheart). You begin to feel identified with this character even before his father returns dead from an unfortunate battle. You see this child`s strength when he decisively prepares himself to join his father in combat and you love his father even more for the sweet and tender way he makes little William understand that he isn`t yet ready for it.
Why do you love the child? You love him for his example of determination and audacity at such young age and the solidarity he shows his father. You feel sympathy towards him for having to endure such severity being so little. You love his father because in spite of his coarse manners, he is a true example of a loving father who connects with his small son`s feelings without belittling him. Even though his mind is troubled by the suffering of his Scottish people, he shows tenderness without spoiling him, and shows firmness without getting physical when the boy refuses to obey.
To your subconscious mind, these are examples worthy of admiration. They represent what you feel is right, what is good. So, people unconsciously, more often than not are always trying to find that role model, that great example to follow: A pattern, a blueprint of goodness.

Do you know true heroes?
See results without votingOn the other hand, there is a shady side to all this goodness: “The manufactured heroes”. It is
so sad that there has to be a down side for everything. These so called “manufactured heroes”
whom by the way are not the fantastic, comic or movie heroes; they are created with a purpose in
itself far from goodness and selflessness, quite the opposite. There is a great variety of them.
Ranging from politicians, entrepreneurs, models, sports players, so forth and so on.
Do not get me wrong! I am not saying that there aren`t real heroes among those
aforementioned. I am saying that a vast majority is created by powerful people with only
themselves in mind. To begin with, a true hero does not expose himself to public scrutiny, his
satisfaction being the good deed and not the fat paycheck which could come after the
performance.
A true hero acts on his own principles and convictions and is a genuine world lover, almost
never sticks around the scene and leaves unnoticed. Why is that? He does it simply, because
he is not looking for recognition. He just acts on his own consciousness.
The reason why I felt compelled to write this hub is the need to find meaning to heroics and
how they can affect people`s lives. I particularly do not support manipulation of any kind (some
choose to call it strategy which is only a gentle euphemism). For me it is an insult to one`s
intelligence. Let`s face it: Powerful people create heroes to feed their already overflowing bank
accounts without any concern of the consequences. They just want more money, period!
Philanthropists are a different type of hero. They could care less about money and love the
world so much that they share their own fortune without regrets. Their popularity isn`t created by
them. It is created by the society in which they perform their deeds. They try not to be on the
spotlight and have representatives to do that for them. I wish the world had more
philanthropists, not only money philanthropists, but volunteer philanthropists as well.
To recap, I want to say in my humble opinion:
· The world needs real heroes. They have to be a truthful example to follow or to encourage
people to become heroes themselves.
· A true hero could be anybody acting on his consciousness to help anyone in need without
expecting retribution.
· Fantasy heroes are the creation of a mind who normally believes in the qualities of such
heroes. So their examples can be pondered over and applied to real life.(Careful: notice that I
saidqualitiesNOT superpowers)
· “Manufactured heroes” do not teach something they preach. They have scripts and their fame
lives on depending on how profitable they become. These are NOT examples to follow.
· The secret is not cloning a hero, is learning from his deeds and applying them ourselves.
(The cape, the robe, the mask are just for show. They are unnecessary props in the real world.
So don`t go around wearing costumes, you may be taken for a weirdo instead)
· Heroism can be a powerful stimulus to create awareness and consciousness. Just make sure
it is authentic heroism and not a “manufactured product”.
· Being a philanthropist does not necessarily involves money. Human resources are as great an
asset as money and you can always volunteer. Try to think more about other people less
fortunate than you.
· True heroes are born to help their fellow human, for the betterment of society and for a more
sensible way of life. Can you imagine life without heroes? I can`t!
Cheers,
To your Success!
